Coati
Nasua narica
Other Names:
Brazilian Aardvark, Mexican Tejón, Hog-Nosed Coon, Pizotes, Panamanian Gatosolo, Crackoons and Snookum Bears.
Threats and DangersDeforestation has a huge impact on the way Coatis live, as Coatis spend some of their spare time in trees and could get wounded, dramatically or fatally, when the tree they are hanging around in is chopped down. As well as this, hungry carnivores are always happy to snack on a Coati or two. Jaguarundis, Foxes, Dogs, Tayras, Ocelots, Jaguars, Ornate Hawk-Eagles, Black-and-chestnut Eagles and Harpy Eagles are known to hunt Coatis. White-faced Capuchins prey on Coati kits. Coatis are also hunted by humans.

DefencesTo escape animals that can't climb trees and/or can't reach high places, Coatis run to high areas where predators cannot catch them.
