Spectacled Owls
Pulsatrix perspicillata
DietSpectacled Owls eat mammals, including the Three-Toed Sloth which is a lot bigger than the Spectacled Owl. Spectacled Owls also prey on insects, big and small, owls, bats, frogs, reptiles, crabs and smaller birds.

LifeDuring January through to August, Spectacled Owls will mate and lay 2 or 3 eggs that are looked after for 35 days at the most. Out of the chicks that hatch, it is expected that only one will survive, after leaving the nest after the short period of time of up to only 6 weeks. In captivity, the expected life span in up to 25 years at the most.

Threats and DangersSpectacled Owls are not under pressure of becoming extinct easily, but Deforestation could make them become yet another endangered species of animal.

DefencesSpectacled Owls are strong and loud, and when in danger, they will "scream" loudly. When frightened, Spectacled Owls will make up to four quiet hoots that sound like a growl. This is to try and scare away the danger. Juveniles make a rather croaky call.
